Building careers, helping businesses - we offer a wide range of apprenticeships

Seta apprenticeships

Seta’s engineering apprenticeships provide launchpads for careers in engineering, manufacturing and related industries.

Our apprentices learn sought-after skills, hands on, in a state-of-the-art engineering training facility in Washington, Tyne and Wear – and they are trained by engineering specialists with real industry experience.

In addition, Seta creates a ‘real life’ working environment and we treat our apprentices like employees rather than students: this helps them to be properly prepared for the workplace.

Apprenticeships are open to anyone over the age of 16 who is no longer in full-time education. Want to know more about how a Seta apprenticeship can help your child get ahead? Take a look at our case studies.

Working with employers

We have been providing specialist engineering training for decades, and our apprenticeships are trusted by local businesses, major regional companies and some of the world’s biggest organisations, such as Rolls-Royce, Siemens and Liebherr.

We ensure our apprentices are able to make valuable, positive contributions to businesses  and we work with employers to create flexible, bespoke apprenticeship programmes which deliver for their organisations.

Seta is officially rated as a ‘good’ training provider by Ofsted and our training centre is easily accessible from major road links, including the A1 and A19.

The apprenticeship process

This step by step guide explains the process of recruiting apprentices with Seta:

1) Initially we will arrange a meeting where we can discuss the specific apprentice needs for your business

2) Next, you can either choose to begin the recruitment process in-house or alternatively Seta can undertake this process for you. You must create an account with the Digital Apprenticeship Service (DAS) so Seta can advertise your vacancies – click here for more information. You must also reserve funds for apprentices within your organisation.

3) We pre-screen and interview all candidates, and they are assessed in maths, science, and English.  We use aptitude and initial assessment tools, and candidates are scored – based on everything we see – from 1 to 4, with 1 being the strongest.

4) We will send you a list of potential candidates for you to shortlist and invite for interview. The scores of our candidate assessments are included in the information we send to you.

5) Once the right candidate/s for your business has been found, Seta will enter into an agreement with you to deliver the apprenticeship.

6) Seta will register the selected candidate/s for apprenticeship.

7) The first period of the apprenticeship will be completed at Seta’s facility in Washington North East England, where apprentices begin their initial training and routine in a work environment e.g. time management, work load management and safety awareness.

8) After the initial period the apprentice will then begin their work based training at your business. Seta’s external assessors will regularly visit on site to assess progress.
