Purpose of Role

 

A four-year pathway building the foundation for a long-term career in the specialist craft as a skilled Plater. Provides practical hands-on training and work experience through structured training that allows specific plating technique development.

Through gaining real world experience working alongside professionals in the business the apprentice understands the day-to-day operations and challenges of the job. Also attending college to obtain formal education and certifications in welding.

Successful completion opens the door to future employment opportunities within the business.

 

Health, Safety, Environment and Quality (HSEQ)

 

The Company is committed to achieving a high standard of HSEQ in all of its activities and the post holder will be expected to contribute to maintaining standards to ensure compliance with all appropriate legislation operating at all time within the requirements to ISO 9001, 14001 and 45001.

All employees have Health, Safety, Environmental and Quality responsibilities to themselves: to those they manage, to their colleagues, to customers and to everyone affected by the Company’s business activities

 

  • The Apprentice is fully responsible for familiarising themselves with the site HSEQ documentation, systems and procedures relevant to their area(s) of responsibility and for ensuring that they are understood and applied to everyone within their respective area/s of responsibility.
  • Shall ensure that only safe working practices are applied by persons within their area(s) of responsibility, with care for the environment and due consideration for quality requirements.
  • Shall ensure, so far as is reasonably practicable, that all persons who come within their area(s) of responsibility receive adequate information, instruction or supervision necessary for them to prevent or avoid risks to their health and safety.
  • Shall ensure that a high standard of housekeeping is maintained at all times throughout their area(s) of control.
  • Shall ensure that work equipment, premises and protective clothing and equipment provided within their area(s) of control are used as required and maintained in an efficient state and in good working order and repair.
  • Shall ensure that HSEQ problems which cannot be resolved immediately are raised quickly with their Line Manager.

 

Main Duties and Responsibilities

 

  • Attend college courses related to engineering, plating, fabrication, chemistry and material science to gain theoretical knowledge and industry
  • Learn and apply different plating techniques, including electroplating, electroless plating, and other surface treatment processes
  • Understand how to interpret fabrication drawings, weld procedure documentation and weld inspection procedures
  • Assist experienced welders with preparation and plating of various materials and components including preparing surfaces for plating by cleaning, degreasing, and pre-treating materials
  • Work with various types of metals ensuring a high-quality finish
  • Work on a variety of projects to become commercially aware of the project requirements, cost and timescales as dictated by process requirements
  • Collaborate with team members to complete projects on time and to company standards
  • Keep track of materials and tools needed for projects and report any shortages to supervisors
  • Continuously improve skills and knowledge through hands-on experience and training
  • General housekeeping, cable management and safe working practices in the fabrication halls and throughout the facility.

 

Expectations

 

 

Qualification and Experience

               

  • Minimum of 4 GCSEs including English and Maths (Grade 4-9). 
  • Ability to work at height
  • Ability to work in confined spaces
  • Strong interest in plating and a desire to learn and grow in the trade
  • Good hand-eye coordination and attention to detail
  • Ability to follow instructions and work well both alone and in a team environment
  • Strong work ethic and punctuality
  • Physical stamina and the ability to lift heavy materials and work in various positions
  • Willingness to adhere to all safety protocols and company policies

  • Working week Monday - Thursday 0700–1500hrs and Friday, 0700-1430hrs. 37 per week
