Purpose of Role

Maintain the required Health & Safety, Environmental and Quality Standards across the business through the development of an understating of all relevant policies, procedures and standards in line with current and emerging legislation and approved codes of practice. 

 

Support the businesses HS&E Officers to implement safe methods of working and compliance with company procedures while supporting the operational team awareness of the potential for unplanned losses or damage, whether belonging to A&P or others.

 

Health, Safety, Environment and Quality (HSEQ)

The Company is committed to achieving a high standard of HSEQ in all of its activities and the post holder will be expected to contribute to maintaining standards to ensure compliance with all appropriate legislation operating at all time within the requirements to ISO 9001, 14001 and 45001.

 

All employees have Health, Safety, Environmental and Quality responsibilities to themselves: to those they manage, to their colleagues, to customers and to everyone affected by the Company’s business activities.

 

  • The Apprentice HSE Officer is fully responsible for familiarising themselves with the site HSEQ documentation, systems and procedures relevant to their area(s) of responsibility and for ensuring that they are understood and applied to everyone within their respective area/s of responsibility.
  • Work with managers and supervisors to ensure that only safe working practices are applied by persons within their area(s) of responsibility, with care for the environment and due consideration for quality requirements.
  • Shall ensure, so far as is reasonably practicable, that all persons who come within their area(s) of responsibility receive adequate information, instruction or supervision necessary for them to prevent or avoid risks to their health and safety.
  • Ensure that a high standard of housekeeping is maintained at all times throughout their area(s) of control.
  • Ensure work equipment, premises and protective clothing and equipment provided by the company is used as required and maintained in an efficient state and in good working order and repair.
  • Highlight any areas of concern as appropriate and escalate HSEQ problems which cannot be resolved immediately with the relevant Line Manager.
  • Work alongside A&P HSE Officers to develop understanding of HSE best practice, company policies and procedures.
  • Support the HSE team to ensure that employees have the right working environment, knowledge, procedures and support to do their jobs and comply with the legal requirements, local procedures and industry best practice.

 

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Through continued personnel development develop an understating of health, safety & environmental regulations as well as A&P procedures.
  • Develop and demonstrate the ability to report and record health, safety, environmental and quality performance.
  • Assist the HS&E Officers in the investigation, reporting and recommend action on accidents, incidents, near misses and non-conformances.
  • Assist the HS&E Officers with risk assessments and safe systems of work.
  • Undertake training as required to be a member of the FRET Team, if fit to do so.
  • Assist the HS&E Officers in dealing with emergencies situations.
  • Assist the HS&E Officers to ensure safety related equipment is suitably maintained.
  • Assist the HS&E Officers to write policies, codes of practice, ships safety plans in the absence of (or at the request of) the HSEQ Manager.
  • Assist the HS&E Officers to deal with external auditors, Health & Safety Executive, emergency services and other enforcing authorities.
  • Assist the HS&E Officers to assess and monitor subcontractors when on site.
  • To maintain a programme of continual personnel development as defined in the apprenticeship programme.

Competences

  • Minimum of 4 GCSEs including English and Maths (Grade 4-9). 
  • Ability to work at height and in confined spaces
  • Strong interest in health, safety and environment with a desire to learn
  • Out of the box thinking and problem solving
  • Ability to follow instructions and work well both alone and in a team environment
  • Strong work ethic and punctuality
  • Diplomatic
  • Confidential
  • Planning & Organisational skills with ability to meet deadlines and targets
  • Computer literate
  • Attention to detail

Qualification and Experience

Experience of Working within a fabrication / engineering environment (desirable)

Knowledge of HSEQ legislation and regulations (desirable)
