ABOUT THIS COURSE

This course is designed to support individuals undertaking handyman duties within their work environment. It is available free of charge to employees of charities, community and not for profit groups in addition to unemployed learners. Our practical hands on 2-day course covers Electrical and Mechanical Safety and Building Skills.

  • What is electricity? - Nature of electricity
  • Electric shock, shock protection considerations
  • Shade cleaning
  • Ventilation cleaning
  • Tighten socket
  • Emergency lighting function tests and Fire Alarm weekly testing
  • Weekly automatic door inspections
  • Internal and external lighting checks and changing lights
  • Safe use of hand tools
  • Legionella awareness
  • Sanitary ware inspections (inclusive of seat changing)
  • Vent cleaning
  • Weekly boiler room inspections (checking for leaks)
  • Wheelchair checks (checklist)
  • Safe use of ladders
  • Slips and trips
  • Manual handling
  • Blocked WCs, sinks and Internal drainage
  • Loose fixtures (locks)
  • Replace ceiling tiles
  • Furniture adjustment and assembly, including couch checks (checklist)
  • Make safe (carpets, vinyl, doors)
  • Radiator covers
  • Fire extinguisher checks 

QUALIFICATION GAINED

This is a non-accredited course. All delegates will receive a Seta Certificate of Successful Completion.
