Machining Instructor/Assessor

Type: Full Time and permanent

Reporting to: Centre Manager

Hours: Full Time hours Monday (8.00am – 4.30pm) – Friday (8.00am – 1.00pm)

Job description

We are looking for a skilled Machining Tutor/Instructor to join our training team at SETA. The role will involve primarily Teaching and Assessing mechanical engineering qualifications/courses. These are delivered to apprentices and commercial courses so preferably candidates will need to be a qualified Assessor / Tutor and hold a TAQA, A1 or D32 / D33 Assessing Award (but not essential as training will be given to the right candidate). A teaching certificate such as PTLLS or Cert ed in addition would be preferable.  Appropriate candidate must have good communication skills, positive and be able to adapt teaching to meet the requirements of the learners and their companies.

To be considered for this role you must hold relevant mechanical/manufacturing engineering qualifications and be a time served engineer. Candidate must be proficient in manual and CNC machining (both turning and milling) as well as surface grinding and basic hand fitting techniques.

Role purpose

·    Assessing Learner progress to ensure achievement of NVQ and Apprenticeship Frameworks and Standards to include development of assessment strategies and plans.

·    Assessing Learner progress to ensure achievement of NVQ PEO element of a Study Programme.

·    Training to meet commercial and public funded needs.

Role Accountabilities

  • Train and assess delegates to achieve course objectives, both theory and practical

  • Provide consultancy, advice and guidance to employers.

  • Practical and theoretical instruction to both young and adult trainees.

  • Take all reasonable steps to ensure course material, equipment and training aids are maintained, safe and most suitable to achieve the objectives of the course programme

  • Ensure the safety and welfare of all delegates at all times.    

  • Report on any absences, lateness and/or variations to the course list to the appropriate manager.
